Spécialiste de l’image et du 7e art, Jakob Hoffmann (né en 1964) œuvre depuis plus de trente ans à la croisée du cinéma et des instances ecclésiales, notamment au sein du Jury protestant Film Work. Établi à Francfort-sur-le-Main, il mène de front une carrière dédiée au secteur social et à l’éducation des jeunes avec une activité foisonnante dans l’édition et l’événementiel : il assure la direction du festival de bande dessinée Yippie ! et la publication d’un titre de presse spécialisé pour enfants.

Pour moi, le Festival de Cannes incarne ce dont le cinéma est capable : allier glamour et profondeur. C’est une véritable célébration de cette forme d’art si particulière.

Le cinéma possède un pouvoir spirituel. Grâce à la combinaison de ce cadre tout à fait particulier et du film qui y sera projeté, il peut avoir le pouvoir de toucher votre esprit, votre âme et votre corps.
C’est quoi un bon film selon vous ?
Un bon film mise sur son langage propre, sur les possibilités propres au cinéma en général et sur la capacité du spectateur à comprendre ce langage.

Born in 1964, Jakob Hoffmann has been active in church film work since the 1990s, notably as a jury member of the Protestant Film Work. He works full-time in youth outreach. Alongside this, he is an exhibition curator, director of the Yippie ! comic book festival, and publisher of a children’s comic magazine. He lives in Frankfurt am Main.

The Cannes festival is for me a symbol of what films can do : to be both - glamorous and meaningful. A celebration of this very special form of art.
Do you think that cinema has a spiritual power ?
Cinema has spiritual power. In the combination of this very special setting and the film which will be displayed in it, it can have the power to touch your mind, your soul and your body.
What is a good film in your opinion ?
A good film trusts in his specific language, the specific possibilities of films in general and in the ability of the viewer to understand that language.
